Our brand new (21st Oct 2023) Austrack Campers Gibb 16C caravan promised adventure, but delivered disappointment. In just five months and with only approximately 7,000 kilometres, the caravan became a source of constant problems. Even more concerning, it spent a staggering two and a half months undergoing repairs during that short ownership period. This left us with a significantly diminished travel experience. From the very beginning, we faced a constant barrage of problems...
Overweight and Under Promise: Despite assurances of a 2400kg tare weight, the caravan tipped the scales at 2510kg straight from the showroom. We had to upgrade our GVM on our tow vehicle and severely limited cargo capacity.
Faulty from the Factory: The solar panels failed on our first trip, leaving us with a dead battery and zero support from Austrack. Neither the Perth branch nor the head office offered any assistance, we had to chae around and get quotes. Head office ended up having to get approval for our quote from China.
Leaky Woes: The skylight leaks, and despite reporting it, Austrack has yet to fix it. We have no idea when (or if) they plan to address this warranty issue.
Dust Everywhere: The caravan is poorly sealed, allowing dust to infiltrate the van.
Warranty Woes: Perth cannot authorize local repairs for the solar panels, forcing us on two 140km round-trip odyssey to a qualified Auto Electrician. On top of that, getting approval for the repair from China caused even more delays. Took 2 ½ months to fix the issue.
Accident Waiting to Happen: The ultimate failure came on April 9th, 2024. While traveling at highway speeds, the driver's side wheel sheared off the van due to an overtightened lug nut on the bearings (installed by Austrack). This caused significant damage to the caravan's interior and could have resulted in a fatality. We urge all Austrack caravan and camper owners to have their wheel bearings checked immediately on purchase by a qualified mechanic, due to Austrack Campers poor workmanship. No response from the Director of the company despite numerous requests.
A Company That Doesn't Care
This entire experience has been a nightmare. Austrack Campers provided a faulty product from the onset, offered zero customer support, and their mistakes caused a catastrophe. Their lack of communication, disregard for safety, and overall incompetence are unacceptable.
Stay Far Away!
If you're looking for a reliable and safe caravan, look elsewhere. Austrack Campers clearly prioritizes profit over quality and customer safety. Don't risk your vacation (or your life) on one of their caravans.
